Mario Pagano is a postdoctoral researcher working on the N-EXTLAW project as of October 1st 2022.

The N-EXTLAW project aims at mainstreaming non extractive economic practices in a number of key European jurisdictions. In particular, Mario's research at the UvA aims at developing the public law dimension of the project. At the moment, Mario is identifying public initiatives at local and national levels intended to enhance private non-extractive practices in Italy. Examples of these practices can be collaboration agreements between municipalities and civil society organisations establishing new forms of collective ownership and shared management of public goods.

Mario was raised as a ‘public’ lawyer, with expertise in EU administrative and environmental law. Prior to joinining the UvA, he wrote his PhD dissertation on legal mobilisation of environmental NGOs to overcome the Plaumann test before the CJEU. This in the frame of the doctoral programme in Law of the European University Institute of Florence. He will defend his PhD thesis in Florence on the 5th of December 2022.
