Katharina Pistor is the Edwin B. Parker Professor of Comparative Law at Columbia Law School and a leading scholar and writer on corporate governance, money and finance, property rights, and comparative law and legal institutions. Her new book ‘The Law of Capitalism and How to Transform It’ (Yale University Press 2025) offers a study of the legal underpinnings of capitalism.
Sructured as a lively discussion around Katharina Pistor’s groundbreaking work, this session invites graduate students of all programs (as well as PhDs and junior researchers) to explore the role of legal professionals in designing, maintaining, and possibly manipulating the legal ‘code’ of capital. It prompts reflection on professional attitudes, responsibilities, and the capacity to drive change.
